Tobago is truly one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Located 11°N of the equator, here you'll find the best of what the Caribbean has to offer and more.
One of our quiet boasts is that Trinidad & Tobago sits below the Atlantic hurricane belt. Being the most southerly of the Caribbean islands, we're generally spared the brunt of storm activity during the hurricane season. Whether God is truly a Trinibagonian or not, this twin-island Republic is blessed!
Our beaches are among the most picturesque to be found anywhere and our flora and fauna combine to proffer one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world. The island is home to more than 200 species of birds including sub-species that can't be found elsewhere. It's with good reason that Tobago is considered a bird watcher's paradise.
The island's ecological richness is rooted in the Main Ridge Forest Reserve (UNESCO). The world's first "legally protected forest." A true rainforest, the Main Ridge Reserve inherits much of its character from continental South America but a million years of evolution has given it a twist, all its own.
From March to September, Trinidad and Tobago take on very important roles as critical turtle nesting grounds, and not only for the endangered leatherbacks. Hawksbill, green turtles, and other species — all of which are legally protected in T&T — nest here in season. In Tobago, turtles frequent the beaches of the Leeward coast, especially Stonehaven and Courland (or Turtle) beaches.
The local scene in Tobago is particularly refreshing. Day to day life on the island is reminiscent of the ol' days when time was plentiful and basic, common courtesy was par for the course. The customary greeting of "Morning, morning" is, in itself, a type of communal caffeine: shared with local friends and foreigners alike, it's a way of welcoming that gets everyone's day going just right!
